Starling

I usually don’t photograph starlings, but I couldn’t pass up this starling in these conditions. The starling’s wet feathers add interesting texture and flecks of color while adding to the bleak feel of the shot.

An excellent environmental image, Jay. Ice storms are not good times for birds and this conveys that feeling nicely. In terms of composition, I think a crop from the bottom just above the nearly horizontal branch would be a bit more effective. It seems to interrupt the flow of the image a bit.

Thanks Dennis, now that you point it out I like your suggestion.

I agree with Dennis. It is a great environmental photo. Really tells a story. Dennis has a good crop suggestion. I’d also consider cloning out the twig that is covering the bird’s right foot.
