Image Description

I took this image at Shiprock, New Mexico during an afternoon of inclement weather in March 2024. Brief storms were quickly moving in and out which added to the experience of being in this very interesting location. Except for the lone figure walking along the desert floor, there was no one else around at that time. This added to the sense of isolation I felt while being there.

Hi @Ted_Forman - great to see you here!!!

Lots to like here.
While this is a popular location for photography, I do think this take on it is rather interesting and unique. I like how you’ve incorporated the road to lead the viewer in - and honestly I’m a fan of the human figure in the distance, that’s a nice touch.

My main concern is with the comp - I think a simple crop could help a lot.
The open gap in the upper LHC is a problem for me, so I’d consider this crop:

I think that helps to close off that area and prevents the viewer from being pulled up there.

Thanks for taking a look Matt. I like the crop.

You’re welcome Ted! =)

Hi Ted,
This is a wonderful composition from an iconic location. The B&W conversion; with it’s wide range of tones; works very nicely as does the roadway taking the viewer into the scene. The solitary figure is a nice touch and adds a little scale to the image. I also like the moody dramatic cloud filled sky. I do like the crop suggestion from @Matt_Payne as it does get rid of that small area of sky in the ULC. Beautifully done!

Thanks @Ed_Lowe. I liked that Matt pointed out that blank space in the upper left corner. I went back to the image and cropped it out like he suggested. Looks much better now.
