Late afternoon at a suburban lake. Sometimes you see these birds in pasture land by the hundreds. They look fairly ordinary until the sun hits them. This one was wondering if the person lying prostrate in the duck muck needed any attention. Well, they didn’t until it was time to get up.

This is a well done image of an unusual bird. I like the color and the detail. Composition and lighting or excellent.
you have a lot of interesting birds in Australia. Actually, you have a lot of interesting wildlife in Australia, including Roos, koalas , emus and of course ostrich.
In high school, my girlfriend was from Adelaide. Her father worked at the Australian Embassy in Washington DC, and we lived in the suburbs.
After a couple of years, I started to develop an Australian accent, and my friends and family noticed it.

Very well done, Glennie. All the Ibis species seem to have those iridescent wings that look wonderful in the right light. This one is gorgeous and the “straw neck” name looks wonderfully appropriate. The head turn and your beautiful low angle make this one special.
Thank you @David_Schoen ! Yes. We have some pretty unique animals here. But, your animals are interesting to me. I cannot imagine my love of the outdoors would be so grand if I knew I might end up as a meal for a bear! The ostrich comment was spot on. Not native, but there is a small flock in SA doing quite well. By the way we are eradicating non native species here, they won’t be around much longer. Ah! The good ol’ Aussie drawl!
What a lovely portrait!! And wonderfully different from our plain, regular Ibis – you caught the perfect pose to show the details and iridescent feathers. And the perfect interpretation of his look! Lovely light and BG — no suggestions except maybe taking a little off the right – an 8x10 format might work well here.
I would have passed on this low perspective for lack of a hazmat suit. Glad you did it right!
Oh my, what a wonderful capture and image of this unusual (to me) bird. This popped to the top after the EP and I had to comment! And congrats on the EP - well deserved.
First , I can’t believe the sharpness and this being handheld. Ok, you’re prone in the duck-muck and so I imagine you had the lens braced somehow. But it doesn’t matter, you nailed it!
Love everything here. The colors of the bird are amazing - and not any less, I love the bg colors as well. This is just beautifully captured. Well done. No nits or suggestions from me.
