Really a wonderful clear view on a nice perch. Tack sharp on the head and good feather detail. I believe you nailed it pretty well.
Excellent image, Dave. I really like the pose and perch. Two minor nits:
Those two bright leaves at the beak could stand toning down as they really pull my eye and when I clicked into the largest image, it looked rather noisy. If you plan on doing anything with it beyond this size, I’d suggest a bit of noise reduction.
Hi Dave, Wonderful Bird Capture. I was wondering if the lens could have been opened up to f/5-f/6 to assist with background blur and also drop ISO a stop to help with noise. The color of the bird really causes the eye to clamp down on in, but there a few bright places to tone down. Consider the top left, the perch stick, as noted the yellow leaves at the beak, the oof background stick popping thru the head, lower mid leaves. Or consider 1-11/2 in of crop on bottom. Overall a nice image. Kudos to your good hand-hold technique with the Sigma at 562mm and 1/80
Nicely captured and composed, Dave. It is very sharp given the shutter speed and being handheld. The bright green leaves immediately behind the beak grab my attention. If you can find a way to make them less prominent, I think the oriole will stand out better. Also, as Dennis pointed out the image seems to have a fair bit of noise when opened up large.
