Stump Squirrel

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

There’s a big stump out back that seems to attract critters. I caught this ground squirrel sunning itself on it recently.

Specific Feedback

Cropping? Should I flip it to have it looking right to left?

Technical Details

Z9, 180-600 lens, Nikon 1.4 TC, monopod, 1/10,000, f9, 1260mm, ISO 25600, cropped to 3080 x 3692.

Cute critter! The detail is very nice, as is the pose. I do have a couple of suggestions, though.

  • Crop out the dark area at the top.
  • Adjust the bright areas in the stump so that they are not so bright.
Otherwise, this is a nice portrait and well done.

Nice photo. I really like the alertness and pose of the squirrel. I wonder whether a little more room on the left would open things up a bit. Overall very nice!

Had to stop and look, Dave. My first reactions: the light seems very harsh and bleaches the details in the subject fur and the stump. I do like the black and green contrast.

Overall a nice image, but it is a bit overexposed in certain areas. I think dealing with the bright areas on the stump and squirrel would really improve this image.
