Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

This is a multiple exposure with some camera movement in the different exposures.

Specific Feedback

Does the dark background make it look too much like a velvet painting? That’s not a look I want.

Any other comments or suggestions would be welcome.

Technical Details

ISO 100, f/29, .8 sec. I made a lot of small tonal changes in Lightroom and Photoshop.

It didn’t remind me of a velvet painting, Dan. No Elvis. I really like the layer of whitish sandwiched between the reds. I’m not sure about the lighter vertical streaks on the left. To me, they don’s seem to fit with the rest of the scene.

I really like this image although it is a bit troubling and frightening. It sure fits the title. The white verticals are visions of Charon (tallest) and passengers on the way to eternal damnation. Well done.

Dennis, thanks for the thoughtful comments.

Jim, I’m glad this one connected with you.

Hah! How long since I saw (or even thought about) a velvet painting!? But I never would have thought of it here. Back to reality, this is quite wonderful! It could be called Sprite. (And maybe entered in Nightscape.) However the heck it got to be, it is quite amazing! The vertical “movement” on the left is subtly echoed toward the right, and the clouds are obviously illuminated by light from the Underworld. You have created a wonderful bad dream!!

Thanks, Diane. You noticed some things that hadn’t occurred to me.

Love the title, what a great image! Very haunting, very memorable. The vertical element on the left is ghostly.

The color palette is great, I love the yellows. It does not look like velvet at all.

Thanks, Debbie.
