Description
On a cool, sunny spring day, I was sure that numereous turtles would be out sunning in a local conservation area. I was rewarded with a number of sightings, with this large Snapping Turtle being the big surprise. As I approached slowly from downstream, it was so thoroughly relaxed that I thought it might be dead (second picture). There were two small turtles on the same log, so I moved in slowly so as not to scare the two smaller turtles. I eventually got upstream, which is where this view was taken. This was later, as the parts of the log nearest me became shaded which sent the two smaller turtles back into the water.
V2 is from downstream, where I did manage to get it with it’s eye open. Most of the time it’s eyes were closed, which is why I started out unsure if it was alive…
Specific Feedback
I like the sun hitting the snapper and the head raised with the eyes open while the rest of the log is in shade.
