Sunshine and rain

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Rapidly changing weather came with pretty dramatic light. The processing of this image is a lot heavier than my usual style, because I thought that it was a match with the weather.
I made a B&W version as well, but I also like the change in the color of the clouds, going from the rain showers at the left to the dry sky at the right of the image.

Specific Feedback

Is the processing over the top? Too much HDR look?

Technical Details

Pentax K3 Mk. III, Pentax 55-300 @55mm, ISO800, f/11. Blend of 3 exposures.
RAW conversion in DxO PL6, blend tone mapped, blackpoint shifted inwards, contrast increased.
Slight crop at the bottom, added a tiny bit of canvas left and right because the water felt a bit tight, especially in the LLC.

Hi Han, I really like this scene with all the layers presented - the raining sky, the mountains, and the river in the foreground. The image has a stark feel to it for me which creates an interesting mood. Processing looks good to me.

Thanks @Allen_Sparks for your comment!

Very nice storm image Hans. Quite a dramatic sky and overall processing seems appropriate. The flood plain with the high silver strands along the RS seem to shiny and a bit of a distraction for the rest of the image. Could that section be toned down to match the values of the LS?

Thank you @Stephen_Stanton for your comment! Much appreciated.
I can tone down the shiny water at the RS. The specular highlights are blown out in this area, so no details will be revealed, but the brightness can be decreased.
