The Hat

Sunk my teeth into this one today - I believe this is Wizards Hat down in Bandon. Really digging where it’s going, but of course would love any feedback/CC to make it better!

Thanks!

What technical feedback would you like if any?

Thats pretty neat. Bit too tight at the bottom. Would prefer equal space top/bottom here from the point. Otherwise badass.

The only thing I would change is to slightly reduce the vignetting in the urc. (As a counterpoint to Aaron, I like the unequal placement of the hat.)

Nice placement of the Wizards Hat relative to the clouds. I like the way you have processed the sky from a color and contrast perspective. I agree that the vignette in the URC could be lightened, but this darkening may be due to a polarizer and not a vignette. Either way some dodging to the URC would help. I would also try to darken the sky near the horizon to the left of the Wizard, it feels a bit hot. I agree with Aaron about wanting to see a little more breathing room at the bottom. If you do not have an image with this extra space, this one would be a good candidate for taking into Photoshop, adding a little canvas at the bottom, and using Content Aware Fill to create some more image at the bottom. This image has a lot of good stuff going on, it would be well worth the time to enhance the processing.

Jordon,

It’s great to see some stacks with some light rather than the standard silhouette. The reflections in the water are wonderful in the larger view. I would agree with dodging the UR a bit to balance the light a bit, although it’s understood given the time of day and direction of light that it may be darker naturally. As far as space, sure a bit more at the bottom would be nice, but for me, I would much rather see a little more room on the left since that’s where the light is leading in from. But we’re splitting hairs at this point and I know composing these see stacks are often quite difficult. You did well with this.

The light and composition are beautiful in this scene. I do agree that the framing is a bit too tight on the bottom of the frame, but that’s not a deal breaker. Your processing looks good to my eyes.

This came out really well for you. The clouds are well placed and the sky has been well processed. The reflections are marvelous, adding much to the scene. The warm light coming in from the left provides great atmosphere, a sense of morning. I agree that it’s nice to see this rock in daylight. I was able to see colonies of barnacles in some areas. It’s shape makes me think of a bellowing elephant seal. Nice work.

Light, main subject, reflection all great.

Does it make sense that it works for me, but also feels a little tight compositionally?

If I had one critique or edit I think the main rock structure could use some burning it’s shadow areas. Everywhere else looks very contrasty between light and dark but the rock itself seems flatter. Wouldn’t really brighten where the sun is hitting the rock out of fear it would get too hot, so would work on darkening the dark areas not getting any light.

Thanks for all the feedback - here’s a new edit
