The Wizard's Hat

7 years ago in winter I visited Montafon in Ausrtia for a snowboarding holiday. The next year I came for the whole winter season and since the power of the mountains always lured me back. Today I’m doing my 4the winter season. In 2020 during the pandemic outbreak I stayed here to work in summer. And with a lot of time to discover the mountains I quickly discovered a favorite spot where I eventually went bivouacking so I could see the sunsets and sunrises from above and what a different world then down.

If there is something I miss in winter down here in the valley, then It must be sunlight. I had times with hard work I didn’t had any sunshine on the face for a couple of weeks. I felt that mentally. Last summer I spent at home at the Belgian coast. I love contrast!

Specific Feedback Requested

I love contrast but It an go overboard quickly, also color wise I would like to know if bleu is not too saturated.
I edited the picture along some video course from Sean Bagshaw. These really elevated my editing I can recommend it to everyone learning.

Hey Ken, this is quite nice indeed. I like the feeling of being on a high ledge almost looking down. I think your processing is fine. The blue is fine too. I do sense a bit of white blown out in the clouds at the top, left of center…maybe just a loss of detail when converting to JPG. Nice work here, sir.

I think that this looks very nice and to me the colours are spot on.

This photo is exceptional! Love the comp. I agree with the other comments. Love the blue water and clouds. If it was me, the only thing I would change are the wispy dark clouds in the upper left. My eye keeps going up there.

Well done!

Hello Ken, this is an amazing location! You’ve done well to capture it. If it were my image, I’d tone down the contrast in the sky a touch. This would help with the white point and reduce some of the saturation in the blues. I find that the way it is now, my eye is drawn up away from that amazing light in thin distance and the detail in the foreground.

Great shot!

Cheers!

Outstanding view for sure, Ken! Your processing and the blues look just fine to me. My only suggestion would be to tone down the whites just a little in those clouds center top of the frame. Beautifully done.

Thanks all,

I didn’t noticed it here, but I worked on that cloud indeed to pull out the detail again. I have to see where it went wrong and/or push is a little more. I’m planning start printing this year and this picture will be one of those I want to print.

For the dark cloud I can maybe try to clone out the most of it, good point.
