The last of the aspens

From an early snow in the Sierras several years ago. I chanced on this arrangement with a low sun angle that made the droplets stand out.

Canon 5D2, 24-70 f/2.8 at 68mm. f/13, ISO 800, 1/125 sec. I’m sure it would have been with a tripod.

Re-processed the raw file but very little improvement. Modern NR gave a bit more definition to the fine structure. Used a TK mask to darken the bright yellow area. Cloned out a couple of stray twigs on the edges.

I like the arrangement and the light is wonderful. Superb texture and contrast.

Well now that’s a find! I have a similar shot, but not so colorful. And the drops! All the shades of brown and yellow just pop off the snow. I think maybe a smidge of the highlights/whites could come down and maybe the yellowest leaf. But it’s all subjective.

Thanks guys! I didn’t think to tame the highlight on the snow, but that’s a good idea. I did bring down the brightest yellows, to the point they got too flat, which makes me question my processing capabilities. Maybe should have another look.
