Description
Ododata (dragonflies and damselflies) must have some of the most complex reproductive strategies in the natural world. This image shows two damselflies (Familiar Bluets) in the “wheel” position, with pretty good detail. For the full story on how they got into this strange arrangement, see the wiki article at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Odonata.

Russ, I have never seen this in person, so have never had the opportunity to capture a shot like this. Very nice. nice DOF so both are nice and sharp, but at the same time the BG is far enough away from the subject that it is out of focus. Nicely done.
Hi Russ - this is a stunning image of the 'flys, with sharp detail, a perfect POF, and nice interplay of colours. While this is a common mating position, it’s description in your link (The “Evolution” part) is really interesting. Thanks for providing the link to encourage us to learn more.
This cropping works, but I believe this image might be even more compelling with a vertical crop.
Really fine shot!
Beautiful work on this one, Russ. The detail in the insects is superb. The only thing I’d suggest doing is blending i some of those brighter out of focus background twigs/weeds/ and removing the odd colored blob in the upper left corner. But those are very minor elements in a superb image.
