An outcrop of Scots pine and mixed Birch and Ash at one of Scotland’s premier Glens. Glen Affric is a wonderful place to visit in Autumn and I love that this single lone birch in full gold plated military regalia, appears to be leading his troop out into the misty abyss.

A gorgeous image, Ian. Looking at the thumbnail, the double break in the fog seemed a bit odd, but the larger image dispelled that feeling nicely. Mirror smooth water works so well to create a peaceful feel in an image and the fog accents that. The colorful line of trees just gives the image the necessary bit of punch to make it work.
Ian, the yellow/green of the birches stands out well in the midst of what’s nearly black and white surroundings. I really like the “pointing across the way” sense of the tree covered outcrop and the birch leading the way. This is a very peacefull, yet dramatic imgae with the well hidden ridge and it’s reflection on the left.
This caught my eye, standing out as a stunning composition. I love the reflections, especially of the misty area to the left of the peninsula. And the placement of the horizon halfway between top and bottom works really well in this case.
A beautiful atmospheric shot. I like how the outcrop stands out from the BG landscape because of it’s sharpness and fog free environment. No suggestions or critiques.
What not to love about this image! A great composition placing the lone birch just enough off centre and where the perfect reflection is emphasized by placing the horizon in the middle of the image. I like a lot the contrast between the colorful tree island and the more b&w land to the left, but there is still a tad of colors behind the fog.
It is hard to find anything to improve, the only thing I can think of is maybe to play around with the light. Below is just an example, but I do not think it is better just a little bit different emphasizing the lone birch a little bit more.
Ian, I appreciate your work with diverse repeating elements making for a kind of rhythm a lot. The symmetry in the composition accentuates the serenity of the scene aptly for me.
My only suggestion would be to darken or eliminate the bright spot in the sky in order to match it with the reflection. But this is only a minor matter for me, I enjoy the image as presented.
Love the moodiness of this scene! One thing that I would suggest is to crop in from the left to just to the left of the second section of fog. To my eyes, it gives the right side more weight and the overall image is more balanced.
I also agree with the previous suggestion to clone out the white area in the top center of the image . It is a tad distracting and an easy fix. (I did not do that in my processing example).
A masterpiece, truly. Everything about this image reminds me of my younger days in Algonquin Park in Ontario. I just want to exhale! I do like a lift of the lighting that Ola offered for the reasons he provided.
I wouldn’t change a thing, it’s perfect as is. The symmetry due to the reflection is what first caught my attention and the reflection is perfect. Second, I love how the shapes afforded by the reflection all give a right-to-left movement. Finally, that line birch out there ahead of all the trees gives a sense of courage as it appears to lead all the trees into the unknown mystery enshrouded by the fog. Wonderful work.
