About This Image
A few days ago, I picked a poppy petal from the garden and did some macro images of it against a tablet with white light. The image was just kind of documentary and not at all thrilling, but we actually had some rain Wednesday, so I was playing around and added the poppy image as a layer to a black and white of this scene from the full moon a week or so ago. When I posted it on our club FB page someone referred to it as the apocalypse. Then the climate report came out confirming that we’ve blown it and this image seemed to fit.

Does this image evoke that same feeling of impending doom or is it just gratuitous color?
Poppy was a four image stack. All images taken with a Canon EF 180mm f3.5 macro at f/13, 1.3 sec, iso 200.
Images merged using the color blending mode in PS. Some minor repairs where there were imperfections in the poppy petal letting the gray of the B&W image through.
What a unique and creative composite. These days your poppy resembles a forest fire; they are so prevalent. In that way, it is a bit apocalyptic. Super image.
Amazing colours - works well as a composite. Yes impending doom and fits really well with the intended narrative.
I tend to feel forest fire rather than apocalypse - but that’s my frame of reference rather than anything saying fire in the image.

When I first saw this image I thought forest fire, like Huw, my frame of reference. But I love how you layered the two images to come up with this final result. It’s powerful, and unfortunately very relevant.
I do composites but I usually keep it to my abstracts, it’s fun to see it done so successfully here. I’ll have to open my mind to the idea that landscapes can be composites too. Great job.

Yes, a feeling of impending doom is conveyed to me by those tongues extending upwards and towards the viewer. A very creative work, Dennis - send it to the UN to be used as a poster!
Apocolyptic for sure, but for me I think more in line with Matt Damon landing on Mars… or the like.
Very creative combining the poppy leaf as a “filter” Ya know, I had an orange filter back in the 80’s when I first started out… Definitely creates a mood!
Dennis, there’s a strong “end of the world” feeling here. In the earlier version, I didn’t notice the partial 22 degree halo arching just above the center.
This was based on another frame, though the same settings and tripod location, so the halo might be a bit more pronounced. Or it could have been my processing. It was in the other as well-just not so obvious.
