This image is part of my ongoing project “Out of the Sea”, portraying the Azores with their volcanic origin and abundant vegetation. It shows the solidified lava at the coast of Sao Miguel near the town of Mosteiros.

Really interesting series I imagine.
How do you decide what chunk to photograph?
This one is very interesting and I like it a lot.
As presented it has quite a deep blueish tint - is that intentional?
There are nice leading lines encouraging the eye to wander. E1 and D1 towards A1
Mono conversion definitely works as does boosting the contrast and a bit of burning in to supplement this.
Really nice image although I would probably go mono if it suited your series

Peter: This so reminds me of the lava flows I explored as a boy and later every chance I get as an adult near my grandmother’s house on the central Oregon coast. Hers was a deep black so I’m curious if that was the same for you. I find all the swirls and textures fascinating and am always amazed at the hardness and hardiness of these formations. Nicely seen and presented. >=))>
There’s a nice flow to this image even though everything is obviously stationary. LOts of nooks and crannies to explore. I’m not surabout the blue cast though. Was that intentional?
