The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.
Description
I still have an image or three from last fall that I never got around to posting. They aren’t the “rush home and get ‘em done” type, but I’d still be interested in your feedback.
Specific Feedback
What are your thoughts on the business” of this image? Too chaotic?
I would have preferred to have shot this with golden light, but due to logistics had to settle for high overcast. Does that work okay here?

Hey @John_Williams - These are the types of scenes I love finding and photographing. The array of colors are certainly wonderful here. I feel like the upper right hand corner is where I’m getting lost. I tried cropping a bit off the right and the image felt more cohesive and balanced. So much to explore in this one. I can definitely see why you stopped to photograph it.
John,
High overcast works just fine in this image. The light does not appear to be harsh and those reds and oranges are really popping. To me this looks like a bush on fire with arms reaching down from above. Not sure of the symbolism of that description but that’s what I see. The two tree trunks to me don’t add a lot to the image so I hope you don’t mind, but I took this for a quick spin in LR. There are some very dark spots in the image so I tried to dodge those a little so they are not such an eye magnet and I also cropped to try and reduce this to what I see and that is the flaming brush and the extended arms. The foreground is soft and adds interest so I didn’t do anything to it. Just a simple crop and some dodging. As always, if this isn’t your cup of tea, toss it down the sink.
Hi John,
That is definitely what I would call some bold in your face autumn color! It is certainly an attention grabber. The high overcast cast light works beautifully for me and I do not find it too chaotic. I too am thinking about a small crop; so let me muddy the waters a little bit; although slightly different than what @Bret_Edge and @David_Haynes suggestions. Just my opinion of course.
