The past month has been consuming and I’ve not been able to participate on NPN, but I’m starting to catch up and first order of business is to comment on this image. To quote @Ian_Cameron, I’m a huge fan of this shot. I love the creativity of the wide field-of-view. (I don’t have a lens that goes this wide, but this image makes me want to dash out and buy one.) The trees have such character, and the composition exquisitely sets that up.
I always love an image that is fantastic, and then goes one step more. For me, it’s those couple of trees in the distance framed by the foreground trees.
Print this one huge and display it proudly.

Hi Markus, my initial reaction without reading any of the comments is that the scene reminds me of the wildly twisted ancient laurel trees of the Fanal forest in Madeira- not sure if this is the case, but what a stunningly beautiful scene, and an area I fell in love with. I love me a good sunstar and this one is perfect. The distant trees in the “porthole” of the foreground tree are very compelling , as is the golden glow of the sun in the porthole itself. The leaning branch of the background tree on the right overlapping the foreground tree is the only minor distraction I see, although had you shifted your position to the right, the sunstar would not have been possible. Very beautiful image!!
