Yellow-headed Snail Parasite Blowfly

Image(s)

Image Description

Blowflies aren’t my usual cup of tea, but when I saw this cool little dude I couldn’t resist a photograph.

They are nectar eating flies and very beneficial for the garden. The female lays her eggs on land snails and when they hatch they eat the snail. Lovely little maggots!

I tried stacking, but my concentration failed, so I am hoping there is enough in focus. I started with a tripod and ended up hand-holding.

Amazing. Sharp and no noise at ISO 8000… No Words.

Glenys: A photogenic critter indeed and you have the focus right where it needs to be. Getting the eye right is critical IMO and after that everything else is just a bonus. Here you have the body rendered nicely as well. Good work too in getting close with a 100mm. Top notch shot. >=))>

Very nice. Lighting is bright, but softened so it really brings out the details in the fly. Sharpness and critical areas of the fly are in focus. Awesome…Jim

Glenys, your focus looks good. The colorful head and eye are amazing. This is a striking insect, well captured.

Glenys-Incredible detailed image of a really interesting fly. I’ve never seen one quite like this. Love the eye and the yellow of the head and blue of the rear of the body. Great job to get this as sharp as it is while hand holding the camera. Did you use a true macro lens? Telephoto?

Thankyou Ted. Yes. True macro lens. Dumb luck with handholding and getting enough in focus.

Sweet little critter! I love the yellow head and great eye, and neutral BG. The focus looks fine, especially for being hand-held. Excellent!

Excellent - BG, perch, composition - and what colors!

Excellent EP - kudos!
