A Shadow of Herself

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I was photographing this Garden Orbweaver spider in her web over my pond, when a moved the camera and discovered that a specular reflection from a lily leaf had turned her into a nicely sharp shadow. I posted an alternative version of this view to my 2025 favorites.

Specific Feedback

I’ve moved her position in the frame slightly and put a lot more effort into burning-in the even brighter reflection to her right.

Technical Details

R5, 180mm macro, 1/400 s, f/3.5, iso 800, tripod.

Hi Mark,
This is a wonderfully unique image IMO and I do remember a similar one in your 2025 favorites. I can not quite wrap my head around how you captured this, but I do know that I am enjoying the end result. At first I was thinking this should be a little lighter, but then thought that might negate the air of mystery this image has. Beautifully done.

Really neat, Mark. I’m not sure how you saw it or captured it but I sure am glad you did.

Oh my! How good is this! So well seen and captured. No suggestions. Just brilliant.
