A windy beach

I was on a beach on the SE shore of Lake Michigan right at sunset with gale force winds blowing sand like crazy. Looking nearly straight down I was amazed at the patterns from the low light across the ripples and the “noise” caused by the blowing sand. Thought the 1/90 capture time was not particularly slow, the sand was moving fast and furiously, lending a fascinating “haze” to the image.

Wonderful visual movement in the image, with a fascinating texture. I would never have guessed blowing sand. Well done!!

John, the pattern set off by the low angle light looks great. Without your description, I wouldn’t have know about the the blowing sand either.

A very cool way to depict these ripples - it reminds me of a spine. The motion isn’t very obvious, but it’s there. Very gritty.
