After the Fire

Critique Style Requested: Standard

Description

The Retreat fire on White Pass highway 12 burned about 45,500 acres. It is now contained. It changed the forest appearance dramatically in many places. The underbrush is gone and many trees have burned. This was taken after the highway reopened a few days ago. There was still some smoke but most of the fired was now far to the south.

Specific Feedback

The busy bottom and the lack of full tree on bottom right.

This is a sobering reminder of the damage done by wildfires. It is sad this huge, beautiful tree was lost. I really like how it is accentuated in silhouette against the colorful brush and the still green hillside and the still smoky air in the BG. This image tells a compelling story.

Hi Jim, Thank you for sharing this beautiful example of the cycle of life. I feel it works really well just as it is. Well seen and processed.

Jim, the color shift in the background works very well at setting off the silhouette of the burned tree. The extra bits in the bottom left don’t bother me at all.

Ed, Guy and Mark, Thank you for your nice comments.

Very nice silhouette. The smokey background is lovely and works to tell the story of the fire. I would like to see a little more on the right margin so as not to cut off the tips of the tree branches. Nice image, it really caught my eye.

Mark, Thank you for the editors-pick. I was very surprised what with the many wonderful submissions. Thanks, again. Jim
