After the Rain

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

We had a heavy, but short, rain storm pass through last week. I opened a window and took some photos both during the rain and this view after the rain stopped.

Specific Feedback

It was still overcast, but the contrast between the glistening raindrops clinging to the trees and the wet, dark trunks grabbed my attention.

A lovely scene, Mark. Your composition looks excellent to my eye. There are some rather bright pieces on the ground toward the lower left that are a bit of an eye magnet for me.

Hi Mark,
I am really enjoying the warm earth tones as well as some amazing details in this woodland scene. Where they really began to shine though, is when I opened the large version and I was greeted with all those glistening raindrops as they reminded me of little pearls adorning the tree limbs. I am also enjoying the BG as well. While I quite like this as is I can see a twofer here with a pano version as well. Maybe something like this. Beautifully done IMO.

I’m really loving the rich orange/red tones and the complexity of this scene, Mark. The drops of rain water clinging to nearly branch really stands out to me. So do the deep oranges and reds of the leaves on the ground. The light you had was soft and perfect for this type of image and this is nicely composed. I do think that the one branch on the floor in the LLCis too bright but a quick burn would help there. I do like the crop that @Ed_Lowe came up with but I also love the woodland floor in this scene.

Super texture here. I, too, love the floor, and agree that that branch needs to be dealt with.

I especially like the fallen tree on the right. A perfect foil for everything else.

Nicely seen!

Oh wow! I didn’t see the water drops until I viewed it large. Really nice! I like the way you’ve chosen the composition with the slight V shape to the trees at ground level.

Mark,

The glistening branches is what catches my eye in this photograph. I like @Ed_Lowe 's suggestion about the pano crop as it focuses the attention better on the glistening branches.
