Alaska Brown Bear cub in a Thoughtful mood

Critique Style Requested: Standard

Description

One of 2 very young cubs thinking what mischief to get into next. We were at Lake Clark National Park where the bears are wild but relatively acclimated to photographers in this one location. Probably the only location that you can do this. Photographers need a professional guide and have to stay in a group. Don’t try this anywhere else in Alaska or the NW by yourself.

Hey Larry - sorry for overlooking this cute cub! Sometimes NPN gets flooded and things fall through the cracks. Great pose that could be just scratching an itch or contemplating the meaning of life. Bear paws knock me out - just so cute even with those formidable claws. Of course this one will grow into them and everything else. One thing that might improve the overall photo would be to deepen the shadows in the bear’s fur. Right now the overall luminosity seems a bit even with the shadows this light. The grasses all around make a soft frame that gives us lots of information about where it lives and the season. Good thing to have a guide - I’ve only ever encountered grizzlies in Yellowstone and from a distance which was close enough!
