TJ´s Bio

TJ hails from the serene landscapes of rural Southwestern Pennsylvania, where he was fortunate to grow up surrounded by nature’s bounty. Trees to climb, vines to swing on, and forested trails to explore were his childhood playground. In the winter, every spare moment was dedicated to snowboarding. Nature, in all its splendor, played an indispensable role in shaping his existence. It became his meditation, his balance, and the sanctuary that brought him closer to his true self.

The winds of destiny eventually led him to the Pacific Northwest, one of the most breathtaking places on Earth. Here, his passion for the outdoors and hiking found an ever-accessible canvas for exploration. As life led him to the bustling city, he recognized the increasing importance of finding balance and centering himself in nature.

Photography became his intimate means of connecting with the natural world. It allowed him to immerse himself completely in his surroundings, fostering a deep appreciation for life’s intricacies. For TJ there’s a stark contrast between being in nature and being truly IN nature. The act of navigating a hidden, moss-covered creek or standing waist-deep in rushing water is a form of existence simplification, a stress and worry antidote that washes away concerns and leaves him refreshed, even if it’s only in his heart and mind.

He has always been prone to thinking big, his mind prone to wandering through dreams and calculations of what-ifs and should-haves. The relentless pursuit of the future often overshadows the beauty of the present moment, which passes in the blink of an eye. Photography, however, grounds him. Peering through a viewfinder, he must encapsulate the world, a story, and his thoughts within a small 3:2 frame. It’s a moment that freezes time, compelling him to concentrate profoundly on his subject. It tames his racing thoughts, enveloping him in tranquility and mindfulness. TJ feels most harmonious with the world when looking through that lens, noticing the subtleties of the experience: the water’s temperature seeping into their clothing, the interplay of light and shadow, the mist of waterfalls on his cheeks, the warmth of the sun on his neck, and the sensory feast of nature’s sights and sounds. In that moment, his heart brims with gratitude for the privilege of experiencing life’s purest essence.
