Thank you Sandy you put a lot of thought into that critique and I appreciate it very much.
I agree with what @Sandy_Richards-Brown said about the leaves. To me, this background sings though. I am not sure how much f/16 will make the BG more “defined” but another approach is to focus stack, especially if you are shooting this from a tripod, Jim. You move the focus to the leaves and then stitch it in post-processing. Easier said than done, I always forget until I come home and review the photos on my computer.
Sandy gave me some really good advice on this image. The only thing I might do this take about an inch or so off the bottom to decenter the bird a tiny bit more.
Very nice, Jim. An excellent pose and good detail in the Goldfinch. The others covered pretty much what I would have said.
@Sandy_Richards-Brown Ours started showing up late last week-I counted 13 males in one of the apple trees on our last “nice” morning. Did they bypass you folks with that ugly weather you’ve had?
