With the newer nails removed and the yellows on the window frame tamed a little :

Description

I love the windows in this place! I have photographed this one on previous trips (probably all of them) but at least in the more recent ones I remember (and can find) there was a shadow coming from the left and falling over part of the window. This time I managed to be there earlier and got a better sun angle.

Very little done – some global tonal corrections for contrast and some perspective correction. Denoise is a habit but it wouldn’t show at this size.

Another very interesting window image, Diane. It makes me want to see what it actually is on the window sill that’s peeking out above the wood. I find it interesting that the nail heads have remained so shiny (the engineer is coming out there).

Diane, good subject and a very nice photo. I too love windows especially in mountain wooden houses. Maybe too many white little points? I don’t know.
Your image reminded me of a photo I took in the Alpen some years ago. Maybe the time is come to pick it up in my archive, I 'll look for it.

Great wabi sabi photo of what looks like an abandoned home/window. It makes me want to see more or imagine what happened in that house and think about the stories that window and curtain could tell. Great emotion in a simple photo of a window. The nails are a bit of a distraction and makes me wonder why they are so bright. I have no suggestions . It seems like it fits well into your window project. Would love to also see it in b&w.

Thanks, @Dennis_Plank, @Giuseppe_Guadagno and @robertakayne! The new nails bug me, too. This is Bodie State Historic Park and there are ongoing efforts at preservation, which probably accounts for the nails. I could try to find matching rusty ones and clone them in, or just remove them.

Interesting thought about B/W, Roberta – I like the blue/brown tones but will give it a try. Sometimes B/W can pick up some nice tonal separation.

The windows there are really something…so many tattered and faded curtains. The new nails are a double-edged sword, good to preserve and keep things literally together and bad since they don’t match!

Diane, I really like the touch up work you’ve done with these. The old lace curtains must have been pretty fancy or a big project back in the day Bodie was a hopping place. They speak of prosperity, intimate family life(?), and history; and decay and ruin. I’m not a big fan of B&W, but it really speaks to an older, faded time period with this window.

Thanks, @Kris_Smith and @Ed_Williams! (I got behind here…) I find these old windows endlessly fascinating.
