Description

This turned up rummaging through the archives and asked to get out. Shot 10 years ago in Bodie – the back window shot through the windshield.

A simple 2-frame focus stack. I was curious what software I was using then, but the PS layers show the cutouts that indicate auto-align layers and then auto-blend. The edges of the crack in the windshield look outlined, but this is the appearance in the unadjusted raw file.

You caught some amazing patterns in the damaged glass, Diane. Nice job combining the two frames. It produced a very interesting combination.

Well, this one isn’t out of the cookie-cutter. I like it, Diane. There’s some possible cropping and zapping to be done but you know that.

I love your very unusual repertoire of images Diane. From birds, to flowers, to landscapes and to your “finds”.

I’m loving the patterns in the glass and the very subtle colour palette. I like how the image isn’t sitting squarely on the page. Another piece of quirkiness.

Thanks, @Dennis_Plank, @Don_Peters and @glennie! I was curious both why I cut off the image at the edge of the window, and if I would process it differently today. The two raw files did have room in the left but the edge of the windshield made an awkward curve on the left that unbalanced the back window. I stacked the two in Zerene and got slightly (very slightly) more detail along the strange crack in the windshield. Then I got rid of the curved windshield edge with the Remove tool, and did a little clone cleanup. Posted above.

The composition definitely works better, Diane and the minor improvement in image quality doesn’t hurt any.

Good revision, and a truly unique image.

From a 10/10 to 11/10! The little extra works a treat.

Thanks, @Dennis_Plank, @Don_Peters and @glennie! It was fun to play with this and compare Then and Now! Back to more normal pursuits now.
