At Peace

At Peace Cropped

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Taken at sunrise with a profound sense of peace. The sea was soft and soothing. I wanted to capture this mood. The most intriguing part of this image to me is the bottom half (these are much better appreciated viewed large). The silkiness and texture with the asynchronous reflection make this image for me. I don’t consider this a typical sunrise image but interested in others perceptions.

The only processing was highlights taken down and a hint of texture added.

Specific Feedback

I posted the cropped version to delete the surf in upper right. Not sure if that makes a better, more balanced image. Would the bottom half alone be a good abstract?

Technical Details

f/18, 1/3 sec, iso 320

Mario, they are both lovely images that fit your title

I think I prefer the cropped version, both because it does remove the surf in the upper right, but also because it emphasizes the line of reflected sunlight better. Also, I think the more balanced composition of the cropped version works with your theme better.

Hi Mario,
Both of these images are quite lovely, but my preference is the cropped version for pretty much the same reasons @WillR already mentioned The color palette is wonderful as is the reflected light acros the waters of the Atlantic. Your idea of cropping the sky and making this more of an abstract would also work IMO, but I would still prefer your posted crop version. Love the title BTW. How do you like the Fenwick area? I ask because I have spent several nights camping at Cape Henlopen SP in DE.

Thank you Will @WillR and Ed @Ed_Lowe for you comments. Ed, I love fenwick. Between Bethany and Ocean City it is serene /quiet yet close to those more active areas. The opportunities for photography are so different from PA.

A lovely, simple, almost abstract image. Beautiful colors. I much prefer the cropped version for the same reasons as @Ed_Lowe and @WillR. No critiques from me.
