Aurora

Description:

We were on a Nat Geo trip through the inside passage of Alaska and were blessed with several days of excellent weather . In the wee hours of the morning we were awakened by the captan ,who notified us that there was a nice display of the aurora. With that, cabin doors flew open and we rushed out to the deck to watch the display and photograph.

I did not use a tripod and instead placed the camera on a deck railing and the rest is history.

A wonderful opportunity! The sharp stars and dark gradient in the sky are very appealing, as are the silhouetted mountains and the reflection in the water. But there is a strange mottled pattern in the sky that looks like processing was pushed too far. I wouldn’t expect that for the sensor in that camera.
