Sweet, the chicks are awesome and a proud Mom.
I think a wide open aperture would have for a better BG.
Dan, I’m finding with this camera/lens combination, an F11 works very well to get several critters at different distances away, all in focus.
Sometimes that doesn’t blur the BG adequately, but that can be done in post-processing.
Sandy
Very cool, Sandy. Seeing the swan out of water is interesting. To me the light branches in the background are out competing the intended subjects for my attention. I think some digital pruning might be called for.
Nice look at the swan and the chicks make the shot. For me the black goose shows up well against the environment, though you could try blurring the background to see if the goose pops more.
Beautiful swan family, Sandy. I agree with Dennis about the lighter limbs in the background drawing the eye a tad. I think if you were to darken them slightly it would help, but as it is, I think it is a wonderful shot. I know what you mean, sometimes you have to go with a mid f-stop in order to get all the critters in sharp focus. You managed that well.
