Baobab in morning sun

Every one of the guides I was fortunate to work with in Botswana several years ago were just amazing, both for their level of knowledge about the region—really equivalent to a PhD—as well as their skill working with us, the tourists. Once they realized I was interested in photographing much more that “big cats”, they took delight in showing me the sights they knew I wanted to see, including Baobab trees. As I was about to ask them to stop so I could photograph this one in morning light, he lifted a hand to say “you wait, my friend,” and pulled into a perfect position so the rising sun was directly behind the tree! This “tree of life” and all of the amazing world they shared so graciously was truly magical.
