Be Wary of the Barred Owls

Image(s)

Image Description

Like the Barred Owl in BW image, this shot was also taken in our backyard though an open window, this one at ground level a few weeks later.

This is the route the squirrels would take to get to the bird feeder, only about 30 feet away from where the owl was perched a few weeks earlier (one can easily speculate why the owl had its eye on this spot).

This is nearly full frame with a small crop off the top and right side.

Feedback Requests

The contrast of warm and cool color, and the strong diagonals created by the shadows is what appeals to me the most. I tried to subtlety enhance that with a small boost in contrast on the snow and shadows, and warming the WB on the squirrel.

Any feedback on this final result is appreciated!

I think your processing was perfect for this striking image. You emphasized what makes it good.

Another one I almost missed! What a cute little guy – I hope he’s still with us. I also love the diagonals and the colors, and the squirrel being small in the frame emphasizes his vulnerability in the big world. Well done – no nits!!

A very strong image, Jim - the squirrel is tack-sharp, and contrasts well with the snow. The diagonals provide a lot of interest and perspective.
Well done!

Thanks to all for your comments!

Jim, this is a fine look at this squirrel, made even better by the angled shadows. I’m grinning about the bit of snow on it’s nose…clearly been digging in the snow for food.
