Beechtree base

In winter, the moss at the base of the mature trees is much more noticeable. Coastal plain forests with lots of Beech trees have a nice mix of bright green moss at their base surrounded by the warm browns of the fallen leaves. (5D3, 24-105 @ 64mm, 1/20 s, f/16, iso 200, tripod and polarizer)

Mark, what a great photo. The contrast between soft green moss and the dried orangish leaves is wonderful. Also I like how the moss is peaking out from all around the tree. Nice catch.

I love the green moss in amongst the leaves, Mark. To my eye it looks as if a touch of counter-clockwise rotation might be needed, though I know tree trunks aren’t always vertical. I think you might burn the bright side of the trunk and some of the roots a bit (or a luminosity mask adjustment). Well seen and executed.

Mark,
The brown/orange tones of the fallen leaves contrasts nicely with those vivid greens of the moss. My only suggestion would be to tone down the right side of the tree a little as it looks a little bright. Sometimes it pays to look down. Great eye to spot this.
