Bidens Backlit

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Beggars ticks (Bidens) has such a strong personality, and I wanted to capture this by getting close and using backlighting to bring out the spines alongside the achenes. It was a delight to also see some spiderwebs lingering on the seed heads, early in the day, before the dew had burned off.

Specific Feedback

Are there things that distract from the main subject? What about the colors in the background? Are they interesting, helpful to the overall image? Or not?

Elizabeth, I my favorite part of this view is the colorful background on the right. The bits of spider web glowing are also good. I’m wondering how moving the camera a bit to the left, to position the beggar’s tick against the more colorful background would have looked. The darkness above your subject competes with the subject.
