I have seen these occasionally in Kidepo , Uganda but normally as with most Coucals in the middle of a bush.

Great pose, Ken, and I like the thorny perch. The exposure looks good with plenty of detail in the blacks of the body. The tail isn’t showing any detail, but that is how we see it, so it doesn’t bother me. Judging by the slight lack of crispness in the catchlight, it looks as if your autofocus may have latched onto one of the thorns-their algorithms do favor high contrast and straight lines.
