Background, light, perch, and head angle are all very nice. On my monitor, the darks look a bit too dark, and the bird does not look tack sharp. I am not sure whether the sharpness issue is due to a big crop, a resizing issue, or something else. Every time I happen upon blackbirds near cattails, I wait for them to perch on them, but it never happens. I need some tips!

Claasic, for sure…
Nice pose, bright eye, and great BG.
Maybe a little too much dead space at the right?
A sliver off might help.

Very nice pose and epaulet, Allen. I love the perch and background. I tend to like my blacks blacker than most, but I still think you could open these up just a touch. It could be my monitor, but I’m seeing no detail at all in a large portion of them.

I think you could open this up a bit, but I don’t mind real Blacks in nice light like this.
Bg is really nice and the perch is classic.
