This is quite nice Don, I love the B&W treatment for this image, it really accentuates the curves and textures of the mushroom. My only suggestion would be cloning out the bright spot in the upper left, and if it were mine I would clone out all the little bright spots in the shadow areas so you’re eye isn’t drawn to them.
For me David’s comments are right on. The main subjects need to stand out more and removing those spots will accomplish that. Very nice.

An excellent macro shot, Don, and I do like it in B&W. I need to think more about B&W, which is what I learned off of, and have been doing color for so long, I seem to forget about trying to convert to B&W just to see how I like it. Perfect subject for it. I agree about removing the bright spots. Great shot.
Thank you for your comments. I noticed that the image posted on NPN the white spots are more pronounced than my jpg image I uploaded. In any event, I did tone down the white spots.
Don, as other’s have said going b&w on this really lets the shapes stand out. It’s a great idea, that I’ll keep in mind in the future.
Don: Ditto to all the previous positive comments. I would also explore a much more abstract presentation by cropping aggressively to fill the frame with the mushroom shapes. Overall very nicely done.>=))>

I like your composition but it is a different photograph. What I liked about the original is that the entire group of mushrooms has an intriguing form and the darkened vegetation around it forms a frame. As a bonus, you get context.
