Bonaparte's Gull

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

This gull was content to spend at least an hour just wandering around these tidal pools. I photographed it while I was walking south along the beach and then again walking back north. I took over 200 shots and these three seemed better than most. I would never have done this with film. I really admire those photographers who took great shots using film.

Specific Feedback

Any thoughts appreciated.

Hah. I took a few great shots with film. Each one probably cost $1200, given the number of images and rolls that went directly into the trash. Thanks heavens for our little “delete” button.
Really nice series of this gull, among the smallest gulls. The poses and feather detail are great, and BG natural.

Allen, these are really good shots of a very difficult subject to get right. Nice handling of the whites. I actually like the second image best of the series, with the reflection.
@SandyR-B I hear you, most of my film photos are stuck in boxes somewhere in the attic . . .

All excellent, Allen. the last one is my favorite-you caught a perfect moment with it in mid-step. And I agree about film. I can’t imagine going into a “hide” for a full day with a dozen glass plates.
