For David Rathbone, Virginia’s Eastern Shore is more than just his backyard. It’s a place of great mystery and reverence, where he has found solace in an often overlooked landscape. Rather than travel from his Virginia Beach home to photograph distant and popular locations, David has chosen to drive through the Chesapeake Bay Tunnel and explore a part of the Delmarva Peninsula that many people visit but never truly see.
As he states in the introduction to the book, “What started as a one-day excursion turned into a five-year project documenting the area’s landscapes with my camera.” Any time he deemed the weather “good,” David would head out to locations not far from home with his Hasselblad camera.
