This was Papa Bluebird yesterday morning. The babies are getting big enough to peer out of the nest box hole – they will fledge soon and I’ll have to find some honest work to occupy my time. In the meantime, I’m enjoying watching them as much as I can.

Mostly just basic LR with some global tonal adjustments, denoise, and cropped on both sides. Into PS for a slight amount of tonal tweaking – nothing interesting. Fiddled with the blues but didn’t change much.

I’m liking the very artistic millipede? in such a complimentary colour! And, that background! Holy cow! The little bits of yellow on the bird echo the background beautifully.
The pose is lovely and of course, the detail in the feathers iS wonderful.
Love the crop and the colours really hit me! Blues are gorgeous after your tweaks, the background complements the bird’s colours really well and the millipede colour sets everything off magnificently.

Thanks, @Glenys_Passier , @Huw_Thomas and @framingtheuntamed ! Glenys, the BG color is early morning light on a neighbor’s tree (showing through branches of oaks in between) that has gorgeous yellow leaves. I keep meaning to ask what it is – the leaves are locust-like. A honey locust??

I am impressed with the F16 and no artifact from a high f-stop. Both photographs are good, but I like the roomier framing in the first post. Nice work.
Hi Diane, I like both compositions actually but I think the dark line in the upper left of the top image can go. Love the hint of olive on the breast which is a distinction from our eastern species. The distinctive bug is a nice feature in itself too. Well done!

Thanks, @canan and @Dennis_Plank ! They were both getting ragged – parenting is hard work. No idea if they might do a third brood but I cleaned out the box but decided to leave it down and see if they will use another one that always seems to be a second choice. Swallows are done with it so maybe they will find it acceptable. It offers better light for photo ops.
Fine capture of this behavior, Diane. The contorted centipede adds a lot to this image. I like the cropped version without the dark area in the top left. Colors and lighting look fine, and well composed. Congrats on this image.
The lighting was perfect to get that rich blue color. The yellow in the BG also makes the blues pop more too. I think that this is fine as presented. Awesome Western bluebird shot…Jim
