Self Critique
I like it, but I’m curious about others. I like how the branch of the tree was cast onto the truck also revealing the texture.

Description
I was exploring the bristlecone pine forest in the White Mountains in CA at sunrise and noticed this shadow.
Welcome to NPN, David. I’m really liking this image and I’m looking forward to seeing a lot more of your work and your comments on other people’s efforts.
I like the rich warm colors and the incredible grain in the trunk of the tree.. The shadow of the branches works for me. the way the shadows cross the grain adds a bit of tension to the flow of the image, but they’re so gracefully shaped that it’s not a real interruption.

This one definitely works for me!!! The shadow adds a wonderful interest and mystery to the bark, which is already compelling on its own. I think the subtle darkening at the top is an important element, helping to suggest something that may be looming above.
It seems a minor point but I wonder about a slight burning of the lighter vein in the upper right, or push its color warmer to fit in better??
The sensuous lines and textures are wonderful, as is the variation of gold/brown tones in the wood. The shadow of the trees branch provides a contrasting diagonal line and adds to the story of the tree. I think the framing of the lines is very good, with the most. interesting ones in the center. Nice image.
