Buffleheads in action

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I visited my neighborhood lake again yesterday morning to try for more bufflehead shots. I found a group a little ways offshore that were interacting and making short flights. I found these guys are really fast and tough to catch.

Specific Feedback

With swirling wind and other moving ducks, I didn’t try to do any straightening on these images. Any thoughts on that?

Great flight shots. Buffleheads are hard to capture in flight and you nailed these. Hard to pick a favorite. I like the water splash and interaction in the first and in the fourth I get the sense he’s turned his eye towards you. I may have asked this before, but are you using the pre-capture feature for these shots?

Wonderful images, Allen. The first and the last appeal to me the most. The last because it has the best look at the iridescent colors, the first because of the interaction.

Hi Allen, no I didn’t use pre-capture. I just concentrated on the most active ducks at the time.
Thanks for the comment.

Allen, this is a great group of images! Catching ones in flight, and parallel to you, is qute a feat. All ducks always fly AWAY from me, so I have a whole collection of tail-end ducks…
I like them all and can’t choose a favorite.
Excellent work!

What a nice group of images, Allen. I also like the splash going on and the interactions shown in the first image. They are all great and I would love to have captured even one of them. Excellent series of duck photos.
