Here’s a shot I got of a local CA Quail that I liked. I’m happy to say that we’re starting to see, and hear them on our property after a long absence. Yay. D500, Nikon 2-500 lens, Nikon 1.4 TC, hand held, 1/1250th, f/8.0, ISO560, 650mm, cropped to 2312 x 2638, AI Clear

Real nice look at the quail with good detail. I like the grass in front of the quail as well. The quail seems a bit tight in the frame, perhaps a bit more room to the left.
Nice pose and I like the log he’s perched on, Dave. the eye contact is really nice. It looks like there’s a lack of detail on the breast, but I’ve always had trouble getting California Quail to look right, so it might be something about the bird’s plumage itself. You might consider doing something about that bright out of focus branch that hits the quail in the chin-it’s pretty distracting to my eye.
