Cacti and birds

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

This one doesn’t seem to fit in any category very well. My intent wasn’t documentary so I’ll put it in the abstract category. It’s an infrared shot of a dove and some smaller birds feeding on saguaro fruit.

Very interesting Image !!! Works perfect in B&W. I have never seen a plant like this so great composition find. Very sharp and great detail. Very Cool !!!

Thanks, Gill. These probably don’t grow where you live.

Unique, for sure! The one in the UL looks like a House Finch. I’m drawn to the swirly shapes on the right – they look quite unexpected to me. Are they material for a composition in their own right?

What you’re seeing is the top of a crested saguaro, Diane. They result from a gene mutation and they’re not very common. This one is in our botanical garden. I have taken many shots of it with nothing interesting to show for my efforts. Thanks for commenting.

Don,

First of all, an outstanding IR image! Quite the unique Saguaro set up with the dove/birds as an excellent bonus to the scene. I love the heavy contrast here.

While the birds almost blend in and don’t jump out at you immediately, they are a very cool addition and complete this fascinating image.

That unique form of the cactus on the right certainly has an abstract look about it and like Diane, I think might deserver further investigation - especially if you have frequent access.

Thanks, Lon.
