Beautiful shot from this iconic location, Shawn. Nice early morning side lighting. I like how you’ve composed the image with the FG trees off center. I love the light caressing the top of the large tree. I don’t know if it ruins the mood of this gentle morning, but I might try to bring out a tad of detail in the overexposed sky. Also I would straighten the horizon/ tree line
I’m not sure you could have conjured up better light and conditions for this image if you tried. Just beautiful. I do agree with Michael’s comments re: the sky and horizon but aside from those minor points, I find this to be a peaceful, really beautiful image.
Shawn, on first view, I was struck by how “green” this is. The greens speaks very well of early spring with the fog in the valley doing a good job of separating those foreground trees from the mountain, giving a good sense of depth. I assume that the ground is sloping both down and to the right, so there’s no need to “adjust” the horizon. As “something to try”, have you looked at either a 5x7 or 8.5 x 11 shaped crop, with less of the mountain’s edge on the right? I think that would feel less spacious but give the mountain a bit more presence…
Got to love the mood of this image - well processed. Darkening the sky some may help. I would consider shaving off 10% on the right to bring the trees in some
The horizon doesnt bother me incidentally
Hi Shawn,
I am loving the peaceful vibe radiating from this classic location. The soft early morning light and the atmospherics with the BG fog are quite lovely. While this is quite nice as is I think the small tweaks made from @Michael_Lowe have elevated this scene another notch. Beautifully done!
I really like this, its gentle, warming and lyrical. Every element is working in your favour and its simply and beautifully composed, which of course does full justice to this peaceful scene of renewal. I was going to mention that the horizon gives the impression of a slope, but I have just seen somebody else has mentioned that already.
