Thank you for the review. I know this is not a Canon question but you said you did not like the Sony (which one?) and sent it back. The reason I ask I sold all my Canon equipment 5D3/4 and L lens and went to Fuji XT2 which has been nice but regret not having a FF for night images, DOF, both shallow and front to back. Why did you send the Sony back if you remember. Thank you
I appreciate your experience/review of the Canon Mirrorless! I have been toying with the idea of that type of system, but being a Canon person, I didn’t want to really sell all my gear, and rebuy. At least for me, I was hoping to stay with the brand. While I enjoy my DSLR, it does get heavy at times, and a lightweight system would be great to have. Thanks, Sarah!!
Thanks for this write up, Sarah, and congratulations on the purchase of your new camera! I also just purchased the Canon EOS R on the first day it shipped, but I’ve yet to really run it through its paces in the field. I plan to use it for very specific purposes where my Canon 5DsR doesn’t fit the bill, specifically for a lighter-weight system in cases when I need to hike long distances, and for night photography. (We’ll see how it does with the latter.) I also needed a back up camera since I gave away my old 5D MII last year. So far, I love the way EOS R fits in my hands and the familiar Canon user interface and menus. I’m taking it up to Yosemite with me next week. Can’t wait!
Thanks for the great review and comments Sarah. I’m a Canon shooter who stuck with 5D MkXX’s after deciding Sony was not for me. Can you (or anyone else following this thread who has used an R) speak to general impressions of the new R lenses, or especially the ease of use of the adaptors to EOS lenses?
There is a VERY complete tutorial on Youtube for the EOS R interface and menus. It runs 1hr and 50 min. ! It also covers the Canon camera connect app, which appears to be very capable for those needing a mobile phone interface.
