Critique Style Requested: Standard
The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.
Description
I like the background and the framing by the leaf and branch. Good color in the wingtips. The breast highlights are blown out-did what I could to fix it. Would be better if shot at eye level.
Specific Feedback
Any thoughts appreciated.

Good self assessment Allen. I like the perch, the pose, the BG, and the look from the waxwing. I would clone out the leaves sticking down into the frame. Tough light conditions. May have helped to use a minus Exposure Value?

Your self-critique looks right on from a technical viewpoint, Allen. You must be getting some incredible light lately as you’ve had a lot of images with a real golden tinge. Sometimes that can be almost too much. Several years ago i had a red-shouldered hawk from California that I couldn’t get to work well because of the super intense golden light. Does the R-5 have the ability to display overexposed areas in the viewfinder? Most of the mirrorless cameras do these days and I’ve been keeping mine turned on to prevent this kind of occurrence.
Compositionally, I really like this image and the perch and lichen add a lot to it.

Nice catch Allen. I like the visible eye and the lichen on the perch. Agree with your assessment and the suggestions above. I find these tough birds to catch.
