Cloudless Sulphur in Flight

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

There are those who think that the Cloudless Sulphur is commonplace, maybe even boring. I have a contrary point of view. First, it’s about as yellow as yellow gets. Second, careful photography and good processing bring out nuanced details of hue, saturation, and texture. Third, the Cloudless Sulphur is a migration champion, rivaling the Monarch butterfly.

Very nice, Russ. I don’t know how you manage to catch these in flight so nicely, but I applaud your technique. Excellent work.

Kudos to you for catching one of this in flight. I think I have done well if I get one perched somewhere. Nice job, Russ.

Russ: In general this butterfly has been a nemesis for me. We have a very few of them come by our garden but they never stay and never land in a place or for long enough for me to get a shot. At first I thought the yellows were a bit hot but investigating the histogram shows all is well. Perhaps a tiny 1/4 stop or so drop in exposure would help a little. The DOF is great as is the focus and wings open postition. Really nice work. :+1: :+1:>=))>
