Overall C&C on the aesthetics of the shot considering the “almost” vanishing point of the pier, the rail shadows on the sand, the B&W treatment.

I like the shadows and the vanishing point setup, Mark. As for composition, I think a couple of steps to the right to eliminate the partial island would work a bit better as it doesn’t seem to me to add anything to the guts of the composition. The B&W treatment looks great to my eye.

Hi Mark,
I like this a lot. The tonality is wonderful, as are all of the lines, the curving shadow, and the lamp posts getting smaller but still distinguishable. It reminds me of something famous from the early 20thC, but I can’t put my finger on it. I mean that as a compliment, of course.
As for the bit of island, I see what Dennis is talking about. I’m going to attempt to do a crop using the new visual notes tool. I am still exploring that and whether I can dial in a crop as well there as I do in Windows Photo Viewer, which is where I usually do a quick crop.

[Crop] This crop removes the island and also the one piling at the left edge of the frame. I screwed up using the tool: I would keep most if not all of the sky. I couldn’t figure out how to relocate the visual mark up after moving on to editing the post. I’m not sure either whether this retains the original aspect ratio.

Hi Mark,
I decided to go ahead and crop as I usually do. In doing that, I think I noticed a possible need for tiny clockwise rotation. It might just be the angles of pilings and the first lamp, but I’m sure someone else will chime in if there is a need for CW rotation.
Here is the crop I was thinking:
It does put a heavy line in the llc, but I think it also cleans up a few distractions. You could go 5x7, which would cut that llc out and give you more space between the shadow of the railing and the edge of the frame.
