Cold Feet (Tree Sparrow)

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Snowy and cold, and found this tree sparrow shot intriguing. The BG was very nice and I had to clean up a few OOF weed stems with a heavy crop and rubber stamp tool. I enhanced midtone contrast and adjusted the highlights down to pull out the crystalline features of the snow.

Specific Feedback

We are at the edge of safe cropping. Do you find this to be too crunchy?

Technical Details

Z9 180-400mm f4 with 1.4x TC engaged at 550mm (1/1250 sec at f8.0, ISO 1600) DeNoise, Heavy crop, Levels, microcontrast and midtone contrast enhancement. Rubber stamp tool used to remove some distracting branches and OOF plant stems…Jim

The fine plumage looks good, Jim, so I don’t think you’re pushing the crop too far. Great job on the processing.

That lens - Z9 combo is a beast!

Overall excellnt

The LLC seems more dominant than the subjecty itself - consider a combo o incresing subject exposur / decreasing LLL exposure to some degree
Perhaps even decreasing background exposure some

I like this! Great wintry scene, well composed. The sparrow looks sharp and well positioned in the frame and of course the tree with snow adds a lot. The background is nicely complementary.

HI Jim, I like this wintry scene with the bird rendered so well. Love the snow with the greenery as a perch. All looks good to me.
